Role of the Investment Group

The objectives and duties of the Investment Group will focus around the activities necessary to maintain a professionally managed portfolio of stocks. The first few weeks are spent in developing portfolio objectives for the coming year considering the economic, political, and social climate around the world. After the initial objectives are created, the group's main goal is to analyze outside companies and current holdings for possible inclusion/exclusion from the portfolio based on the diversification needs of the fund. The specific criteria for securities selection will be determined by each entering group of students (based on the minimum requirements outlined in the Investment Policy & Objectives statement for the Virginia Tech Foundation), thereby allowing them the flexibility to decide the types of stocks to be considered for the portfolio.

Role of Chief Operating Officer

The primary objectives of the COO will revolve around public relations, human resources, information system, accounting, and event logistic needs of the SEED Program. The public relations duties will include marketing internally to the students of the College of Business and Virginia Tech to develop a strong recruiting presence among the student body. The human resource activities of the Operations Group will center on selecting personnel for the SEED program and supporting their needs. The information systems component revolves around the maintenance and growth of SEED's computer infrastructure. Event logistics is concerned with organizing and coordinating various SEED events. The accounting duties involve reconciling the SEED portfolio to the custodian's report to manage the expense account and to report our financial information. Furthermore, accounting tasks involve preparing the financial statements, budgets, and annual report.
